SantaCon is finally coming to Buffalo, New York! We found it odd that for a city that comes together for just about anything that may result in fun and a little alcohol, it hadn’t been done yet, but have no fear, Buffalo will now be joining the mere 200 locations in 28 countries and counting.
Buffalo Santa’s unite! Saturday, December 17th, noon at Niagara Square. Remember your cameras as we know this is sure to be an epic day…and we know some of you may need a little help remembering. Join us for the after party during the “North Pole Stroll” which includes bars and restaurants in Downtown Buffalo starting at 1pm. Registration will only be $10 or a new toy donation to benefit the Boys & Girls Club & includes free entrance, food & drink specials. Click this to register!
SantaCon is a mass gathering of people dressed in Santa Claus costumes parading publicly on streets and in bars in cities around the world. The focus is on spontaneity and creativity, while having a good time and spreading cheer and goodwill. Something like a Santapalooza or Santa Rampage, SantaCon incorporates a day of cheerful bawdy and harmless behavior while friends, family and strangers will …gather together to sing Christmas carols around the streets of Buffalo.
Don’t just show up in a hat! This is Santacon! So for the love of Rudolph wear a Santa costume (or something Christmas-y)! Get a Santa suit. Buy a Santa suit. Make a Santa suit. Everyone else will be wearing a costume of some sort and we don’t want you to feel lame. Get creative with your costume.. make modifications! Pirate Santa, Super Santa, James Bond Santa, Biker Santa, Doctor Santa, Samurai, Hanukkah Harry, Sugar Plum Fairy, Reindeer, Terminator Reindeer, Elf…you get the idea. Let’s show them what Buffalo is capable of.
Families, don’t feel left out! Santa thinks of everyone. After meeting at the Square, head over to the Niagara Holiday Market for free ice skating all day. You can also catch the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra at 2pm and receive free hot chocolate or coffee! One rule..you must be in your Santa/costume attire!
Finally…young professionals are rewarded for their hard-work in & out of the office in Western New York!
KC You There and the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance will be teaming up to create and generate awareness in Western New York on September 24, 2011 at Social (228 Franklin, Buffalo, NY 14202) from 7:00p-11:00p. The second annual “Teal Carpet Affair” will be a night to remember with a fabulous customized teal carpet leading you into a night of entertainment, food and beverages. The event will be filled with local activists, survivors, and athletes that share similar stories and join the fight to raise awareness and proceeds that will directly affect the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance.
Last October, “Teal Carpet Affair” rolled out the customized teal carpet and attracted nearly 200 guests who came out and supported the magical night. The first annual “Teal Carpet Affair” caught the eye of the media as well making publicity on both print and television.
Each year in the United States, more than 21,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and about 15,460 women lose their fight battle. The American Cancer Society estimates that about 21,990 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed in the United States during 2011. According to the data, the mortality rates for ovarian cancer have not improved in thirty years since the “War on Cancer” was declared. However, other cancers have shown a marked reduction in mortality, due to the availability of early detection tests and improved treatments. Unfortunately, this is not the case with ovarian cancer, which is still the deadliest of all gynecologic cancers.
The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance is the foremost advocate for women with ovarian cancer in the United States. To advance the interests of women with ovarian cancer, the organization advocates at a national level to increase research funding for the development of an early detection test, improved health care practices, and life-saving treatment protocols. The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance educates health care professionals and raises public awareness of the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.
In 1997, the leaders of ovarian cancer organizations from around the country met for the first time as the Department of Defense launched its Ovarian Cancer Research Program and the group “Ovar’coming Together” convened a town hall meeting. The two events inspired these leaders to form the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance to fight for the interests of women with ovarian cancer.
It’s time to shine a new light on a disease that has been overshadowed for over three decades.
Please join us to help increase the fight against ovarian cancer, September 24, 2011.
