The First Annual Ruben Brown Anguilla Classic to benefit Anguilla’s Youth Sports Complex will be held at Temenos Golf Club in April 2011.
Anguilla is tucked away in the Northern Caribbean and is approximately 35 miles long. The island itself is warm and welcoming as well as small and secluded. Since Anguilla is such a remote get away, one must travel to a surrounding island first. You have the choice of flying to San Juan, Puerto Rico and taking a one-hour flight on either Rainbow Air or American Eagle Charter. You may also take a 7 minute flight (yes only 7 minutes) from St. Maarten aboard a private executive charter or on WinAir. If flying isn’t your thing, you can board a 30-40 minute ferry or yacht from the French or Dutch sides of the islands of St. Maarten, Antigua and St. Kitts. Check in later for present sponsors, and further details for the upcoming Caribbean golf outing.
Temenos Golf Course offers a Caribbean golf experience where sand, wind and water blend seamlessly with Anguilla’s natural environment to present a golfer’s paradise. Some of its signature holes include:
- Players being greeted by a spectacular vista of St. Maarten and the Caribbean Sea at the tee box of the 390-yard starting hole. The fairway descends over 40-feet to a narrow, two-tiered green sitting precariously on the edge of a saltwater lagoon. -Robb Report called this first hole, “The Caribbean’s answer to the 18th at Pebble Beach.”
- Large sand dunes on the left and a saltwater pond on the right framing the perilous drive on the 440-yard 16th hole that plays dead into the trade winds and ends with an elevated green surrounded by water and protected by deep bunkers.
- The drive for the finishing hole carrying the edge of the mangrove thicket in a vast stretch of salt marsh that winds through eight of the course holes. The narrowing fairway ascends forty feet through rugged terrain to a narrow green carved out of the native shrub.
Temenos Golf Club is home to many professional golfers including Tiger Woods.
