September is known for many of things. For kids it’s time to go back to school, football season is finally here for dads, and for many, it’s that one last send-off Summer soiree. However, many do not know that the month of September is also Ovarian Cancer Awareness month.
Everyone that is affected by cancer knows that it is unimaginable to go through the curing process, or to watch a loved one or best friend battle day in and day out, while hoping for the best.
So how does one react to one of the deadliest cancers out there? We are talking about Ovarian Cancer.
Ovarian Cancer remains one of the deadliest illnesses out there because of it’s difficult detection. The symptoms of this silent disease are the same symptoms for women who once a month, get you know what! Each year in the United States, more than 21,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and about 15,460 women lose their battle.
In addition to their annual event, the Teal Carpet Affair, the KC You There team will take it into their own hands to create and gain further awareness in the Western New York and Ontario/Fort Erie region on September 1, 2011.
We are pleased to announce that Mayor Byron Brown will be hosting a proclamation officially declaring September Ovarian Cancer Awareness month the evening of Thursday, September 1st, with the lighting of the Peace Bridge.
We ask friends, family, survivors & supporters to sport their teal and meet at Broderick Park (which is in perfect view of the Peace Bridge!) at 7:30pm the Thursday, September 1st.
Following Mayor Brown’s announcement, the Peace Bridge authorities will be lighting the Peace Bridge (the international bridge which connects the United States to Canada ) teal at 8:00pm to commemorate those who survived and those who lost their battle to this deadly disease. This is the first of its kind for the Peace Bridge, so we’re very proud to have gotten this accomplished!
Next step… Niagara Falls & the Empire State Building!
We would like to say a special thank you to Mayor Brown for his anticipated proclamation and the Peace Bridge Authorities for shining light on a disease that has been overshadowed for almost three decades!
