The ladies of KC You There got together last night for apps, wine, cupcakes, and most important, red carpet style! Of course, the night wouldn’t have been complete without plenty of hashtags and RT’s. We wondered…what did we do before Twitter? Anyways, here’s our picks for best of the red carpet for the 2012 Academy Awards.
Best Dressed: Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji
Best Supporting Actress winner (yay!) Octavia Spencer saved the best for last, as she stays loyal to her favorite designer, Tadashi Shoji. This starburst number popped on the red carpet. Listen up, Hollywood, stick with what works!
Best Risk Taker: Gwenyth Paltrow in Tom Ford
Gwenyth has been a red carpet staple for years (who can forget her Ralph Lauren princess pink gown at the 1999 Oscars?), so it’s no surprise she felt comfortable enough to take a big risk this year! Her choice of Tom Ford, with a built-in cape, was elegant, sophisticated, with just enough edge to take the “biggest risk” title. The Anna Hu Haute Joaillrie cuff is the perfect accessory to her look.
Best Color: Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton
Best Actress nominee (alas, not the winner this year) Michelle Williams is always a red carpet favorite of mine. Her vintage inspired looks, combined with her bold choices of color, always make for great fashion. This year is no exception in her coral colored (although it sure looked red on-screen) Louis Vutton gown.
Best use of Print: Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen
Best Supporting Actress nominee Jessica Chastain red carpet stunner wore a dramatic, embellished, Alexander McQueen gown. Everything from the cut, dramatic color (far from the pastels this year on the red carpet), minimal jewels, and hairstyle worked.
Best on Trend: Berenice Bejo in Elie Saab
The Artist swept the Oscars, with Best Supporting Actress nominee Berenice Bejo standing out on the red carpet in Elie Saab. While I love the exquisite detailing, long sleeves a la Kate Middleton; the mint green color is what cinched her “on trend” win.
