DIY Easy Brunch Recipe: Easter Strata

When you’re planning to host a brunch or dinner party, your goal should be to make as much as you can ahead of time. This is exactly why stratas are a brunch’s best friend. What takes a strata beyond an omelet is the bread that soaks up the egg/custard mix overnight. They are also great because you can plan to either use certain ingredients or use up what you already have in your fridge!

As for flavor combinations, don’t be afraid to experiment. Whatever you like in your omelets is sure to please in a strata. Our favorite is a mushroom + sausage + asparagus combo. If you love bacon, maybe  bacon + ham + cheddar cheese is your thing.

What you need:
-Eggs (2 per person**)
-Browned Breakfast Sausage (or whatever you are planning to use)
-1/4 cup shredded cheese
-3/4 cup milk or heavy cream
-2 cups of cut up stale bread
-2 teaspoons dried oregano
-Salt and pepper

**Plan to use 2 eggs per person when preparing your strata. If you are serving 4 people,
use about 8 eggs.

Grease your casserole dish. In a large bowl, beat eggs and add milk. Add cheese and remaining ingredients that you plan on using.  Pour mixture into a greased casserole dish and refrigerate overnight.

Preheat oven at 350 degrees. Let strata stand at room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking for 40-55 minutes or until the center is no longer runny.
